This is fantastic year for persimmons. I'm just halfway through. I've had persimmons since last week of August.

I have a total of 3 medium sized trees, just up to 8 ft high each.

They are so heavily staked. Otherwise the trees will break apart!

I have a total of about 45 persimmon cultivars, with 43 of them grafted together in one tree. A total of only 3 trees. All of the cultivars should fruit next year.

I have harvested about 6 buckets so far, since end of August (5 gallon per buckets), and this is just last week's harvest. Already I have some Fukushu kumquat in the background, and in the foreground some Miho Wase Fruits and some Valencias that were 'accidentally' picked by my dog, grrr!. Also have some late season Apples like Fuji and Pink Lady. The upper right, you can see various shaped seeds of persimmons from the many cultivars I have tasted almost daily to keep track of their qualities. I would try to germinate these seeds and hope to use them as rootstocks.

I still have about 4 buckets more to go with my persimmons. The astringent types hasn't softened up yet. You can still drop by at our house and munch on them! Enjoy. If there's none left when you get here, you sure can enjoy a bottle of persimmon wine!

that is a fantastic harvest!!!
They all look so yummy!!!
I counted a total of 8 persimmons on all of mom's trees this yr..
guess the late freeze cost the fruit.. but I notice no nuts on my pecan or walnut this yr either.. or at least very little.. poor fuzzy tailed rats gonna starve this yr. Crying or Very sad
Did I read persimmons can be alternate yr fruit?? thought I don't recall any of the 4 yrs mom has lived there that there were so few fruit..
Maybe this will just mean next yr will be super loaded??
Congrats on the beautiful harvest!!! maybe next yr I will have some nice harvest pics..

Thanks Gina!

Yes, persimmons tend to be alternate year bearer if you thin them out. But that may not be exactly the same if you are multi-grafting 43 cultivars in one tree. I thought last year was overloaded and I will have few harvest this year, but I've had more.

Next year, the new grafts would bear fruits, and here's hoping. I know your persimmons will bear heavy crop next year, including the one's you grafted early this year. We just hope that there's no bitter damaging cold in the winter.

Regards,

Joe
